Lengthy quote from Gone Girl, but oh so amazing.
I have many friends who are married–not many who are happily married, but many married friends. The few happy ones are like my parents: They’re baffled by my singleness.
. . .
The ones who are not soul-mated–the ones who have settled–are even more dismissive of my singleness: It’s not that hard to find someone to marry, they say. No relationship is perfect, they say–they, who make do with dutiful sex and gassy bedtime rituals, who settle for TV as conversation, who believe that husbandly capitulation–yes, honey, okay, honey–is the same as concord. He’s doing what you tell him to do because he doesn’t care enough to argue, I think. Your petty demands simply make him feel superior, or resentful, and someday he will fuck his pretty, young coworker who asks nothing of him, and you will actually be shocked. Give me a man with a little fight in him, a man who calls me on my bullshit. (But who also kind of likes my bullshit.)
No settling, ladies. NONE. Be strong.

I’m adding that to my “to read” list.
Yay! I need to spend more time with it. I’m reading way too slowly!
This. Is. Me.
I seriously feel like she’s in my head, stealing my thoughts and words.
OMG right?! I’ve re-read that passage I don’t know how many times and it’s just absolutely perfect.
GIMME A MAN TEW LUV DA KRAYZEE!!!!!!!!
YA! KRAYZEE MAN LUV KRAYZEE GURL!
Also – if you have a copy of this book i would like to borrow when you’re done.
I love this quote. And I think I needed to hear it. I might have to read this book.
The quote is just spot-on perfect. I’ve thought about it a lot since reading it, and it’s basically a much more succinct version of the speech I give myself when I find myself wishing I had a more “normal” life.
Agree totally. “Settling” sucketh. The same applies to the male gender. I wouldn’t have you any other way than exactly how you are! Plus, I don’t have to pretend to like some moron that isn’t good enough for you.
